Calvin Yu:

My name is Calvin Yu and I’m currently a student at George Brown College in the Hospitality Operations Management program.  I’m twenty-one years old, born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.   Since I was born, I was brought up in my parent’s restaurant learning the ins and outs of the business.  Choosing George Brown and Hospitality Management program was a natural choice based on my up bringing.  In the future, after graduating, I plan to continue my parent’s business, applying the knowledge gained from college to bring the restaurant to a new level and expand in other directions.

Growing up in the states I was more mathematical than interpersonal, which is why my parents were so surprised when I decided to go to George Brown College for the 4 year Hospitality Operations Management program.  I was first introduced to the industry when I was 17 and living in New Jersey.  I started doing odd jobs for the manager in both the front and back of the house, and I found how feasible a career in the hospitality industry could be.  I now look forward to developing an understanding for all aspects of the Hospitality industry, and although my long term goal is to open a restaurant of my own, I would like to work in all aspects of the industry before I graduate.
